Keno History: Knowing its Origins

The game is not new to the gambling history because it has been existing for a thousand of years. As one of the oldest gambling game, Keno history traces it roots from the French and Latin. Also, some records say that it originated from the Han Dynasty of China 3000 years ago.

The Keno history can be traced through the long history of the Chinese. The play originated when Cheung Leung, the ruler of the Han Dynasty, has no funds to support the war and the money he levied through tax is not enough. The ruler thought of a game called Keno to raise funds for the war. The money used in the play is also used in building the Great Wall of China. According to historical records, the lottery of the Chinese was not licenced until the 1800's, so whatever history the game has is not truly validated.

In the Keno history, the game is not played with numbers. Instead, it is played with 120 Chinese characters. Today, in China, it is played with chinese characters but the amount is lessened to 80 items to keep up with the Western World's play of playing it. There are a lot of lottery games in Europe and United Stated, but when it was introduced to the Western crowd, it becomes an immediate success and hit.

It was believed that the it was brought to the West by some Chinese sailors who land at the shores of San Francisco during the early twentieth century. Also, in this time, the Westerners decided to change the Chinese characters to numbers in order for the Western players have a full grasp of the game.

In the height of the play in the Western fields, it is not yet legal in Nevada, therefore, the operators of it called the game as "Racehorse Keno" to pretend that that the gamblers are betting on race or horse and not with Keno. The 80 numbers used in the traditional game is equated to different race horses and each match is called a race. When it is legalized, it is called again by its old name, but there are some live casinos that still use "Racehorse Keno".
